Gordon College (and my bad story telling skills)

From the beginning...
"Oh hey, what is this in the mail from Gordon? I already got accepted. It is probably just more information." (Said in a really bad theatrical remembering voice.) Wrong (said like "the end of the world")
"Congradulations, you have been choosen to interview (compete) for the AJ Gordon Scholarship." said the letter.
"Cool."
So I flew out to Boston on friday and my parents were freaking out about me flying their by myself. They also bought me this really nice suit because they wanted me to look nice. Anyways, I get there and Mari picks me up at Logan Airport. We get to talking and it comes up that I have a brother who goes to Gordon.
"Oh what is his name?"
"Shane Mueller."
"No Way!"
Over the course of the weekend I would discover that you cannot be a sophmore or older at Gordon and not at least have heard of Shane. Got to the dorm and pulled out my suitcase (which was massive because my dad decided I must have a sleeping bag and I must put it in my suitcase) and went to my dorm with this cool kid Ryan. I found out that amog other things in common he loves... Jars of Clay, Toothpaste for Dinner, Family Guy, and CS Lewis (but honestly, half the population of Gordon is in love with Lewis). His roommate Sean was cool and participated in this funny thing called an Improve Troupe named The Sweatytooth Men (or something.) They had a preformance while I was there and it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen and I really want to try out for it when I go next year. Fun events Ryan took me to... Singing Beach, rock climbing gym, "dance lessons" (aka hang out with friends at the student center, went to the movie room (some person's room) which had been recently upgraded with unbelievable speakers (we could only turn it up to negative 5 before it became unbearable), Nick's Roast Beef (Scrumtrulescent), and he showed me Space Opera.
Now for the scholarship part. Well I am not getting my hopes up because while I was there I could not tell you how many people I met who said "Yeah I am an AJ reject." Eventuallly I started telling people I was a "Future AJ reject". I slept through my alarm on monday and I had 30 minutes to get ready (which wasn't too bad but still made me nervous) and then walked down to the President's Dining Room. I listened to people talk a lot, I do not really remember what they said. I then sat in on Biology II: Zoology/Physiology. The best part is that the professor called on me about a statistic question and I got it right. WOOW I am learning something! Then I went to my first interview with Professor Stevick of English and Theatre. We talked about a lot of stuff including Heidi Chronicles, which was awesome. Then I went to another class Great Ideas: Modernity, and they were studying CS Lewis (everyone there is obsessed with him.) And then went to lunch. They broke us up into 3 groups of 6 for our discussion of Martin Luther King Jr's "A Letter from Birmingham Jail". They divided us in half (group of 3) and we had to create arguments why Christians should and should not have participated in Civil Disobedience. Pro: It is okay to break unjust laws as seen by Daniel when he prayed even though there was a law against it. Against: The church should not take things public and fight against itself but should solve its problems within itself and demostrate unity. I think we did pretty well. Then the second half of the dicussion was about put yourself in the mindset of a Southern White church and create a 5 -step process as to how they should respond the the Civil Rights Movement (keeping in the southern mind-set.) So we talked about it for like 20 minutes and then finally I suggested moving on to the tasks. The Head supervisor (there were four people observing us, 2 adults and 2 college students) said "Thank you I was just about to suggest that." (yes!) So basically it was me and this other cool girl who came up with the first 2 steps and then finally other people caught on to the idea that we need to write something down. Our steps:
1. Pray.
2. Discussion.
3. Challenge them to speak with a Black about thier sentiments.
4. Minor Intergration.
5. Full intergration.
What those all mean, I have no idea, but they sounded good. I then went to my second interveiw with Professor Camp, Head of Biology. And he was hilarious, we talked about CS Lewis, and the HIV virus in africa. He is a Cell Biologist and he showed me his "Ode to Cells" and how much he loves them. He then took me on a tour of the Science Building and they have some really cool stuff! When I was leaving his office he told me "Oh and I will be pushing for you to get the scholarship." (yes!) We went back to closing lunch and we were done. They gave us a CD case as a "thank you gift" which was strange, but as I was leaving this women who was on the board of who gets the scholarship was shaking everyones' hand and saying Thank you for coming." But when I walked by she stopped me and said "You know they very second I met you I could tell you were extremely friendly and had just one of the kindest hearts." (yes!) Whether I get it, I do not know, it is really really hard because there are only 35 students a year. I should hopefully find out in the next 2 weeks.
I finished both The New Lion (an absolutely amazing book!) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower and looked for Blue Like Jazz in the Airport (because everyone is reading it, but they didn't have it) so instead I got Wicked: The life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West, it is really strange and is completely seperate from the Wizard of Oz. I also forgot my phone charger in Boston so they are going to send it to me. I am really excited for college (except Jessica and I need to develop a full proof plan to keep in touch with eachother.

Thanks, I like my new template too.

Most Barnes and Noble (or Borders) stores have Blue Like Jazz, and you should keep looking until you find it. And then definitely read "Searching for God Knows What", which is even better.
